The seaside Centro de los Heroes district is known for monuments dedicated to an unsuccessful invasion by Cuba in 1959. It’s home to many government buildings and the Dominican University O & M, whose campus is flanked by cafes and fast-food eateries. A waterfront promenade regularly features food trucks at the Malecón La Feria Parking area. A subway station connects the area with the rest of Santo Domingo.
