The Federal District is in Brazil’s central highlands and is home to the nation’s modern, purpose-built capital, Brasília. The city features futuristic buildings designed by celebrated Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer. These include the curved, glass-roofed Cathedral of Brasília. Niemeyer's Palácio Itamaraty is known for its arches, reflecting pool and tropical gardens.
