La Paloma is a seaside town on Uruguay’s southeast coast, east of Montevideo. Its slim, white Lighthouse of Cabo Santa Maria overlooks the Atlantic, near traditional fishermen’s cottages. Nearby, Bahía Chica and Bahía Grande are sandy bays with calm waters. The Centro Cultural La Paloma hosts cultural events. West are Los Botes beach, with strong surf, and Laguna de Rocha, a wetland reserve with migratory birds.
