Portland is a city on the southwest coast of Victoria, Australia. The site of Victoria's first permanent European settlement, it has more than 200 19th-century buildings, many made of bluestone. The Portland Cable Tram travels along the foreshore, past the Portland Botanic Gardens, established in 1857. The Portland Maritime Discovery Centre has exhibits on the city's maritime history, plus a sperm whale skeleton.
