Movies filmed in Shimabara, Nagasaki, Japan

Shimabara is a city on Japan’s Kyushu island. Shimabara Castle is known for samurai armor displays and springtime cherry blossoms. West of the castle are preserved samurai residences. Colorful fish swim in narrow canals known as the City of Swimming Carp. South on the coast, Mount Unzen Disaster Memorial Hall has exhibits on the volcano’s 1990s eruptions. Houses buried in ash are displayed at nearby Memorial Park.
