Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.

In an imaginary future, Portugal is made up of an association of states, North and South, with specific zones of influence, their own armies and various TV channels that broadcast only official information. Lisbon has become a city under surveillance inhabited by a repressed, militarized population. Among those people, a man and a woman begin a subversive love affair. They are Antonio, a second lieutenant in the Militia, and Maria, a technician in the anti-seismic brigades.
