Plot summary

Southwest Australia is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. However, this area has witnessed environmental destruction on a massive scale over the past 50 years. Successive governments have sold off and encouraged the release of millions of acres for agribusiness, resulting in long-term devastating impacts, including severe soil erosion and salinization. These factors have led to the complete degradation of this natural heritage and caused economic devastation for many farming families. The documentary traces the history of this ecological, man-made disaster and reveals its effects on the landscape, Australia's unique fauna and flora. It also highlights the efforts of some individuals to reverse decades of disastrous management and proposes a new ethic for the country.
