The peacefulness of the countryside is interrupted by the sound of a loud shot. Bernarda, an 82-year-old woman, lives and has lived all her life in a peasant house in the middle of the mountains, it is a place that for some time has become the scene of conflict, a war that is not against her but due to the circumstances she now lives in the middle of it. A thick fog falls from the top of the mountain and with it the sounds of war. A white blanket that causes the cows not to produce milk, the crops to appear burned and caused her husband to disappear, however Bernarda keeps her hope, day after day, of seeing him arrive with his milk canteen as the last time she saw him leave. Even though the people of the village have left and her daughter's constantly calls to warn her of the danger her life is in, Bernarda has made the decision to stay at home as an act of peaceful resistance to this war she does not see, but feels. Her house is something more than those four walls that make it up; it is the memory of her husband, it is her past, it is her roots, it is her life which she is not willing to abandon.
