Based on "Ako Roninshi" by Jiro Obutsujiro, Kaneto Shindo was in charge of composing the entire script. Yorozuya Kinnosuke played Oishi Natsusuke following the movie "Ako Castle Severance" released the previous year and the Misonoza performance in Nagoya, and became one of the hit roles of his life. In addition, he was selected to play the lead role in "Yoshimune Reputation Record: Abarenbo Shogun", which began broadcasting in January of the same year, from Takuto Asanouchi, played by the young Ken Matsudaira, who was beginning to gain popularity, to Kira Uenosuke played by Eitaro Ozawa, Hayato Hotta in the original play played by Masakazu Tamura, and Kumonojinjirou played by Isamu Nagato, the right roles are cast in every nook and cranny of the supporting cast. The many famous episodes of Tadashinzo are carefully depicted, and the heavy music of Toru Takemitsu that colors them is added, making it one of the best films in the many Tadashinzo video adaptations. It is the year of Genroku 14 under the reign of the fifth Tokugawa Shogun, Tsunayoshi (Nakamura Katsurao). Asano Ueshogashira (Matsudaira Ken), the lord of Ako Castle in Banshu, who was appointed to serve as a host to the imperial envoy, was repeatedly humiliated by Kira Uenosuke (Ozawa Eitaro), the chief of the high family who served as his advisor, and was finally attacked in the pine hallway of Edo Castle. Ueshogashira was forced to commit seppuku on the same day, and the Ako clan confiscated his fiefdom and eventually surrendered the castle. Oishi Kuranosuke (Manya Kinnosuke), the feudal lord of the castle, decides to avenge his lord's death. However, Hyobu Senzaka (Akira Yamamura), a retainer of the Yonezawa clan, whose lord is Tsunanori Uesugi (Yuki Meguro), the eldest son of Kira Uenosuke, is alarmed and sends Hayato Hotta (Masakazu Tamura), a ronin under his command, Kumo no Jinjuro (Isamu Nagato), a grand bandit, and Osen (Yutaka Nakajima), a kunoichi, to investigate the movements of the Ako Ronin.
