Nanwalek, formerly Alexandrovsk and later English Bay, is a census-designated place in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska, United States, that contains a traditional Alutiiq village. The population was 254 at the 2010 census, up from 177 in 2000. There is one school located in the community, attended by 76 students.

Homer is a small city on Kachemak Bay, on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. A focal point is the Homer Spit, a long strip of land with shops, art galleries, seafood restaurants and beaches. Fishing boats dock at its harbor. Galleries also cluster on Pioneer Avenue, near the Pratt Museum, which shows local art and artifacts, including a pioneer cabin. The Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center has wildlife exhibits.

Plot summary

Alaskan natives were driven from their village 70 years ago by a creature they believed to be a bigfoot. No one has been back. Because of dwindling resources, they have sent a scouting party to see if it's safe.
