Bristol is a city straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England with a prosperous maritime history. Its former city-centre port is now a cultural hub, the Harbourside, where the M Shed museum explores local social and industrial heritage. Clifton Village is home to upscale boutiques and quirky indie shops, and the buzzing bars and restaurants around Whiteladies Road are packed with students and locals. Clifton Down is popular for kite-flying, and the Bristol Zoo Gardens houses gorillas and meerkats. Brunel’s landmark Clifton Suspension Bridge straddles the Avon Gorge.

Newport is a city and county borough in Wales, situated on the River Usk close to its confluence with the Severn Estuary, 12 mi northeast of Cardiff. The population grew considerably between the 2011 and the 2021 census, rising from 145,700 to 159,587, the largest growth of any unitary authority in Wales.
