Near sprawling Victoria Park, the Joseph Schneider Haus is a living-history museum recreating life in the 19th century. Part of the Waterloo Region Museum, the Doon Heritage Village evokes early-1900s life with buildings such as farmhouses and a blacksmith shop.
Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. It's a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. Toronto also has many green spaces, from the orderly oval of Queen’s Park to 400-acre High Park and its trails, sports facilities and zoo.
Better Day: The Sarah J Felker Story (2014)
This documentary follows the rise of a promising young singer songwriter as she meets with record executives, plays showcases and hones her craft. Over a three year period Sarah logs video diary entries that chronicle her feelings dealing with homophobia, self image and dreams of a record deal. As a child Sarah often wondered why she felt like a boy in a girl's body. Candid conversations with Sarah and her teenage friends give the viewer an intimate glimpse into the experience of coming out as a gay teenager. The viewer is shown the upside of pursuing one's dreams with the footage of Sarah's big break opening for international recording star K'naan as well as an even bigger show at an outdoor festival performing for a huge crowd. There are also many low points in Sarah's career throughout the three year span that make her question if she has made the right choices. This is a film about hope and possibility but also about redefining success when life doesn't give you everything you hoped for.
