Oświęcim is a town in southern Poland. It’s known for the Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, a former WWII concentration camp with preserved gas chambers and artifacts. In a medieval castle on a hilltop, Zamek Muzeum exhibits local Catholic and Jewish artifacts, plus archaeological finds. The nearby Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary has 18th-century life-size statues of St. Peter and St. Paul.
Zittau is the southeasternmost city in the German state of Saxony, and is located in the district of Görlitz, Germany's easternmost district. It has a population of around 25,000, and is one of the most important cities in the region of Lusatia.
