Bob Hope's USO Christmas in Beirut Filming Locations
Beirut is the capital and largest city of Lebanon. As of 2014, Greater Beirut has a population of 2.5 million, which makes it the third-largest city in the Levant region and the thirteenth-largest in the Arab world. The city is situated on a peninsula at the midpoint of Lebanon's Mediterranean coast.
The Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, are an archipelago in the mid-Atlantic. The islands are characterized by dramatic landscapes, fishing villages, green pastures and hedgerows of blue hydrangeas. São Miguel, the largest, has lake-filled calderas and the Gorreana Tea Plantation. Pico is home to the 2,351m Mt. Pico and vineyards sheltered by boulders.

Bob Hope's USO Christmas in Beirut (1984)
For the first time since the Vietnam War, Bob Hope entertains United States armed service members for his classic USO Christmas show, in this case members of the U.S. Navy and Marines serving in the multi-national peace-keeping force in Beirut, Lebanon, along with British, French, and Italian troops, from 1982-1984. Highlights include a segement where Hope endures the same constant gunfire that plagued Lebanon from 1975 through the early-1990's.
