Neuchâtel is a rural, French-speaking canton in western Switzerland, bordering France. On the shores of Lake Neuchâtel is Neuchâtel, the capital. Its old town spreads beneath the medieval castle Château de Neuchâtel. The adjacent Gothic church, Église Collégiale, dates to the 12th century. La Chaux-de-Fonds is a watchmaking town where the Musée International d'Horlogerie exhibits historical timepieces.

Yerevan, Armenia's capital, is marked by grand Soviet-era architecture. The Matenadaran library, housing thousands of ancient Greek and Armenian manuscripts, dominates its main avenue. Republic Square is the city's core, with musical water fountains and colonnaded government buildings. The 1920s History Museum of Armenia on the square's eastern side contains archaeological objects like a circa-3500-B.C. leather shoe.

Cuenca is a city set in the mountains of east-central Spain. Founded by Moors, it retains its Historic Walled Town with steep cobbled streets and medieval castle ruins. Perched on a limestone spur high above the Júcar and Huécar rivers, it's most famous for its well-preserved "casas colgadas," or hanging houses. Cantilevered over the Huécar gorge, they seemingly cling to the cliffs’ edges.
