On the last day of shiva following his wife Sonia's passing, Jewish-Ukrainian senior Lev still refuses to 'sit' and grieve alongside his middle-aged son, Sam, and granddaughter, Liza, in his Florida condo. His reason is that, to him, Sonia is not actually gone. Instead, her ghost haunts him at every turn, making it impossible to escape her constant judgment. When fellow Florida retirees start filling into his home, Lev learns that Liza has taken it upon herself to arrange a surprise shiva against his wishes. Lev's response is to resist the shiva's sympathy and further attempt to rid himself of Sonia's spirit. However, when his desperate attempts to rid of himself of Sonia's ghost end up scaring all the guests away, Lev is confronted with his truest fear: to find himself alone and without the person he needs most. Only from this confrontation can Lev become present for his living family as they all sit together for the final hours of shiva.
