Colebrook - A Place of Healing and Learning (Documentary) Filming Locations

From 1910 - 1970 the Australian Federal Government along with State Government Agencies and Church Missions, removed Aboriginal children from their families through a policy of assimilation. Colebrook in Eden Hills South Australia, was the home for these stolen children. From 1943 - 1972, some 350 children were removed and placed in this home. It used to be a scary place for these children. In 1972, it was demolished and in it's place a memorial site now stands. The Colebrook Reconciliation Memorial Park was commissioned through the dedicated efforts of the Colebrook Tji Tji Tjuta, Kaurna community elders, the Blackwood Reconciliation Group, Mitcham City Council and the Aboriginal Lands Trust. Several curious children explore the Colebrook site and share in empathy and compassion, as they seek truth from the some of the former residents and others who understand the history of the site. We see them gravitate towards the history of the site because, like all of us, we like to see where we've come from and by doing that we can all navigate the future. These young people will take our country forward. They have to accept Australia's history. This is a place is for learning a big lesson. A lesson in something that should never happen again, not in this or any other country. This is documentary explore the true definition of reconciliation. Not just alignment or walking together; it is seeing the truth. The truth is painful, that is what most people fear, but from fear we gain strength.
