The story takes place in Shandan Military Horse Farm in Zhangye City in northwestern China. At the foot of the Qilian Mountains in the northwest, the shepherd Gao Qingshan keeps a group of horses and lives a carefree life. The horses are supplied for blood stations that collect horse blood. In summer, Gao Jin has a good time on the grassland with the pony born in spring. Gao likes to collect specimens of various animals, so he often hikes in the mountains, and picks up and cleans up all kinds of dead animals on the grassland to make specimens.
