The young Belarusian Laila has a nasty surprise when she arrives in Amsterdam: instead of being able to work as a seasonal waitress in the restaurant industry, she ends up in the clutches of brutal pimps. At nightclub owner Jos Zwolsman's brothel, Laila has to "work off her debts" for the "job agency" to get her passport back. When she spontaneously tries to escape, the courageous woman arouses the interest of the Amsterdam police. Inspector Bram de Groot and his German colleague Alex Pollack, who have been observing the establishment for a long time without success, recruit her as an informant. However, they are not just concerned with Zwolsman, but above all with his internationally sought-after backer: the "gardener", who has so far been a phantom for the police. However, Pollack has to be particularly careful, because Laila's son Yuri, who is with her mother in Belarus, could also be in danger if exposed. Laila also knows that she cannot rely on anyone - not even Pollack's promise of security. Trusting only in herself, Laila begins a double game.
