Facing the Gulf of Finland, Petergof is known for the sprawling Peterhof Museum Complex, home to the 18th-century Grand Palace, elaborately landscaped gardens, and spectacular fountains with statues. Alexandria Park features the Cottage Palace, a Gothic chapel, and a sandy beach. The Kaskad cultural center hosts the annual Peterhof Film Festival. St. Petersburg is a Russian port city on the Baltic Sea. It was the imperial capital for 2 centuries, having been founded in 1703 by Peter the Great, subject of the city's iconic “Bronze Horseman” statue. Tbilisi is the capital of the country of Georgia. Its cobblestoned old town reflects a long, complicated history, with periods under Persian and Russian rule. Its diverse architecture encompasses Eastern Orthodox churches, ornate art nouveau buildings and Soviet Modernist structures. Looming over it all are Narikala, a reconstructed 4th-century fortress, and Kartlis Deda, an iconic statue of the “Mother of Georgia.”
