Sergeant Ken Strange, of the Canadian Mounted Police, and his dog King, are on the trial of the murderer. Herbert Barlow's male secretary is the victim. Elsie Barlow, his niece, has recently arrived from England to look after the lumber yards they jointly own. There are several suspects and the killer's identity is well concealed.
