Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany, is connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River. It's crossed by hundreds of canals, and also contains large areas of parkland. Near its core, Inner Alster lake is dotted with boats and surrounded by cafes. The city's central Jungfernstieg boulevard connects the Neustadt (new town) with the Altstadt (old town), home to landmarks like 18th-century St. Michael’s Church.
Der Hafenpastor (2012)
He has an earthy temperament and his heart is in the right place, this Stefan Book, pastor of St. Pauli. But it is precisely that heart that threatens the Hamburg veteran with a boycott: After 56 years and all kinds of overexploitation of health, the doctor advises the down-to-earth clergyman to step down and gets him a new housekeeper who is trained in nursing: Evelyn Krietsch, who is meant to take care his well-being. But as soon as Book returns from hospital, new problems have piled up at church that the socially-committed pastor simply cannot ignore: There is talk of several break-ins into the house of God, and a young girl is standing in front of the police there. Adoma Fauré, who has just come of age, came to Germany illegally from Africa, lived with her mother, has just passed the Abitur and is now, according to the ruling of the immigration authorities, to be deported back to her home country, Togo. For Pastor Book, who has always had a heart for outsiders and outcasts, the matter is clear: Adoma will be given sanctuary with him until the matter can be re-negotiated in court--much to the displeasure of church councilor Elke Cornelius and his sister Rita Book, who, as the police officer in charge, must arrest the girl. With Sabine Sattler from the immigration office, the energetic Kiez clergyman scores a big hit: from the start the two are on the same wavelength and surrounded by sparks. But there is also his fickle daughter Sarah, adolescent thief Dennis, and enterprising student Luden Bodo, with whom Stefan Book must grapple. Things soon get over his head, and his big heart threatens to let him down again.
