Chemnitz is a city in Saxony, eastern Germany. Its huge Karl Marx Monument commemorates the socialist pioneer for whom the city was once named. Merano is an Alpine town in Italy’s South Tyrol region. It’s known for its spas and art nouveau buildings. Sissi’s Path leads to the Trauttmansdorff Castle, with its terraced gardens. The castle also encompasses Touriseum, an interactive museum, with exhibits about Alpine tourism. At the foot of the Ifinger Mountain, in the northeast, is Merano 2000, a ski area with slopes and a snow park, plus summer hiking.
