In the Calabrian village, whose main resource is fishing, Enrico met Mara, a mysterious gypsy. An understanding is born between the two that leads Enrico to abandon his girlfriend Lucia, linked to the conventions and conceptions of a world that is about to disappear and to marry Mara, for him a symbol of transgression, novelty and rupture. On the advice of a friend they decide to move to Riccione , where Enrico finds a job in a garage, undergoing an exhausting night shift.
