Ayegui in Spanish or Aiegi in Basque is a town and municipality located in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, northern Spain.
San Sebastián is a resort town on the Bay of Biscay in Spain’s mountainous Basque Country. It’s known for Playa de la Concha and Playa de Ondarreta, beaches framed by a picturesque bayfront promenade, and world-renowned restaurants helmed by innovative chefs. In its cobblestoned old town (Parte Vieja), upscale shops neighbor vibrant pintxo bars pairing local wines with bite-size regional specialties.
Hondarribia is a coastal town in northern Spain, on the French border. Santa María gate is the main entry to the walled old town, home to the Gothic and Renaissance Castle of Emperor Carlos V and the 16th-century Iglesia del Manzano church. Sandy Hondarribia Beach lies at the mouth of the Bidasoa River. West of the city, on Mount Jaizkibel, Guadalupe Fort was a Spanish Civil War prison.
Bilbao, an industrial port city in northern Spain, is surrounded by green mountains. It’s the de facto capital of Basque Country, with a skyscraper-filled downtown. It’s famed for the Frank Gehry–designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, which sparked revitalization when it opened in 1997. The museum houses prominent modern and contemporary works, but it’s the curvy, titanium-clad building that receives the most attention.
Coastal Anglet is renowned for its 11 Atlantic surfing beaches, including Les Cavaliers and Marinella. The seafront promenade is dotted with hotels and surfing schools, and backed by pine forest around the family-friendly Forêt du Pignada wildlife park. Sports facilities include tennis courts, swimming pools, and a golf course. Bistros and cocktail bars with seafront terraces are popular for sunset drinks.
Oiartzun is a town and municipality located in the Basque Country, in the province of Gipuzkoa lying at the foot of the massif Aiako Harria.
Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.
