La Sebastiana, the quirky former residence of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, is now a museum with far-reaching Pacific views. During the 19th century, an influx of European immigrants left their mark on the city’s architecture and cultural institutions, many of which congregate around downtown’s Plaza Sotomayor.
Los Andes is a city in central Chile’s Aconcagua Valley. It’s known for its proximity to the Portillo ski resort and to Uspallata Pass, the scenic mountain route to Argentina. Also nearby is the Río Blanco National Reserve, home to condors and pumas. In town, the Los Andes Historical and Archaeological Museum exhibits local artifacts. The Cerro de la Virgen, with its hilltop statue, has panoramic valley views.
