Bremen is a city straddling the Weser River in northwest Germany. It’s known for its role in maritime trade, represented by Hanseatic buildings on the Market Square. The ornate and Gothic town hall has a Renaissance facade and large model ships in its upper hall. Nearby is the Roland statue, a giant stone figure symbolizing freedom of trade. St. Peter’s Cathedral features medieval crypts and twin spires.

Nearly killed by his suicidal friend's tragic drive, young accordionist Alex embarks on a search for meaning. To this rascal, however, that means coming up with a phony handicap so he can move in with a group of theatrical actors. His new friends welcome him with open arms, and Alex gives them his only real gift: passionate tango sessions. Just as he starts falling for pretty Lotte, Alex's motives are questioned by his acerbic roommate Rudolph, who has a penchant for repeatedly faking his own death.
