Boulogne-sur-Mer is a city, known as a major fishing port, on the north coast of France. By the port, Nausicaá is a huge aquarium with thousands of marine species. In the fortified old town, Notre-Dame Basilica has an ornate crypt. The city’s 12th-century belfry was the keep of a Norman-era castle. Ancient Egyptian and Greek artifacts are on display at the Castle Museum, which is set within a 13th-century chateau.
Dieppe is a fishing port on the Normandy coast of northern France. On a clifftop overlooking pebbly Dieppe Beach is the centuries-old Château de Dieppe. The castle’s museum includes maritime exhibits, ivory sculptures and impressionist paintings. Nearby, the Memorial of 19 August 1942 is a museum honoring the lives lost in the Dieppe Raid of WWII. The reconstructed medieval Saint-Jacques Church is in Gothic style.
Dakar is the capital of Senegal, in West Africa. It’s an Atlantic port on the Cap-Vert peninsula. Its traditional Médina quarter is home to the Grande Mosquée, marked by a towering minaret. The Musée Théodore Monod displays cultural artifacts including clothing, drums, carvings and tools. The city’s vibrant nightlife is inspired by the local mbalax music.
Machala is a city in south-west Ecuador. It is the capital of the El Oro Province, and is located near the Gulf of Guayaquil on fertile lowlands. Machala has a population of 288,072; it is the sixth-biggest city in the country, and the second-most important port.
Pikine is a city in the Pikine Department of the Dakar Region of Senegal. Lying to the east of Dakar city centre, at the 2013 Census it had a population of 1,170,791. The department includes the villages of Yeumbeul, Thiaroye, Mbao, and Keur Massar Malika.
