Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.
Hinterland (2009)
70 km away from Berlin, located in a former Soviet military airfield stands a spaceship-like metal dome. What the huge hangar houses is hard to guess. Enter it and you will discover - a tropical island, complete with heat, blue lagoon, coral island, sandy beach, rain forest. Tropical Islands Resort is actually a theme park of a very peculiar kind, a favorite of tourists who want the Tropics close to home, Germans of course but Poles and Danes as well. 'Hinterland' documents not only this astonishing place but also the history of the nearby town of Krausnick, from the Soviet Air Force era till nowadays . At the same time, through interviews of town citizens, employees and executives of the resort, Marie Voignet's documentary proposes an in-depth sociological study.
