Two apprentice waiters - Jára and Karel, together with waitresses Kveta and Jana, experience a number of accidents in one day in an international hotel thanks to their confusion. When they fail to succeed as diners, they are sent by the experienced head waiter Václav to the airport to pick up a prominent foreign guest. However, even this task is not accomplished to the satisfaction of the surroundings. Instead of a guest of honor, however, they bring someone completely different - Dr Horácek. And Dr. Horácek's wife shows up in the mix. Waiters shuffle guests from one room to another, they even fall upon a stash of stolen spirits... And then there is Jára's caring father.
