Plot summary

Hans and Poul sail a two-man freighter from Copenhagen to the province. Somewhat impractical, they are both in love with Margit, and an unhappy Hans is left when she chooses Poul. But on the sleepless wedding night, Hans hears a splash, and out of the water he fishes the young Kristiane with a tragic past.
