Based on Maria Jotuni's play, a sharp comedy about greed and speculation. The inhabitants of a small Finnish town try to survive despite the difficulties during the First World War. Suomalaisen pikkukaupungin asukkaat yrittävät selviytyä vaikeuksista huolimatta ensimmäisen maailmansodan aikana. Kaikesta on pulaa ja keinottelu kukoistaa. Kaikki romahtaa, kun rauha yllättäen solmitaan.
