Les danses de Tami (1957)
This film documents the ceremonies celebrated each year at the Buddhist monastery of Tami in the mountains of Nepal, near the Tibetan border, at 4300 meters above sea level. The lamas take the form of the various deities of the Buddhist pantheon. Their dances, accompanied by ensembles composed of trumpets, flutes, drums and other typical instruments, last several days. This is the first time that these ceremonies have been filmed. The musical accompaniment recorded on the spot, therefore original, translates the particular atmosphere which envelops the religious rites of Central Asia.
