Link (2020)
A short film about two boys who meet in the middle of a soccer field. They talk and joke and soon the boy with the soccer ball, William, asks the other boy, Aleem, if he'd like to kick. Aleem replies yes but is a little perplexed. William picks up the ball and kicks it as high as he can, but it drops back to his feet as the sound of a chain link fence rings out. He tries again. Same result. He can't do it. Aleem says that it is alright, he has to go soon, he is a refugee. Suddenly we hear William's mother Maureen scream out and the film cuts from the boy's dream to a reality where Aleem and his father Abbas are behind a chain link fence in an immigration detention centre. William has wandered too close. Maureen reprimands William for coming here, he's done it before. The group is then joined by Aleem's father Abbas and a shouting match ensues. The fight is broken when William picks up his ball and finally gets it over the fence to Aleem. Maureen scolds William, but he fights back, telling her that Aleem has never even had a ball and that is BS. Maureen gives up and drag's William home. Over his shoulder he yells to Aleem "See ya mate". "Bye".
