London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.
The Principality of Asturias, a region of northwest Spain, is known for its rugged coast, mountains, religious sites and medieval architecture. Regional capital Oviedo’s San Salvador Cathedral houses religious relic the Shroud of Oviedo. Nearby on Mt. Naranco stands the 9th-century churches of San Miguel de Lillo and Santa María del Naranco, the latter originally built as a palace for King Ramiro I of Asturias.
Llar (2014)
Llar, the home, a space where the fireplace lights up to warm the house. But also Llar in its most metaphorical and spiritual sense. We talk about home when we lose it, when we observe it from far, when we feel the necessity of returning to it, almost always frustrated by space or time. Two opposed directors, different experiences, generations and formal propositions and yet somehow the images to both suggested by the Asturian term Llar, embrace and complement each other, bringing us a tale of uprooting and solitude, a requiem for the end of a society, a way of understanding life, the passage of time and the relationship with nature.
