Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. The revitalised Salford Quays dockyards now house the Daniel Libeskind-designed Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry cultural centre.

Plot summary

Synopsis Eric Cantona is our guide in Manchester. He meets two rival groups of supporters, while the whole city is preparing for the next derby. As the days pass, the tension rises in the town. In the pub, walking in the streets, at the stadium, near a concert hall, Eric talks with fans and lets them talk about memories and gradually out of the passion for the club, the history of the city emerges, its cultural movements, its people struggling with the vagaries of economic life. This is also the history of the clubs themselves. The aim of this documentary is to explain how an identity is forged in a permanent round trip between the reality of the sporting rivalry fuelled by every game, and its mythology
