Mexico City is the densely populated, high-altitude capital of Mexico. It's known for its Templo Mayor (a 13th-century Aztec temple), the baroque Catedral Metropolitana de México of the Spanish conquistadors and the Palacio Nacional, which houses historic murals by Diego Rivera. All of these are situated in and around the Plaza de la Constitución, the massive main square also known as the Zócalo.

Cuautla is a city in the Mexican state of Morelos. It's noted for its rich war history. The Museo Histórico de Cuautla has displays on revolutionary leaders Emiliano Zapata and José María Morelos y Pavón. Southwest is the Ex-hacienda de Chinameca, where Zapata was ambushed and killed in 1919. His remains are buried in the Plaza de la Revolución del Sur. El Almeal and Agua Hedionda are natural hot springs.

Cuernavaca is the lush capital of Mexico’s Morelos state, cradled by the Tepozteco Mountains south of Mexico City. The colonial city center features the 16th-century Palace of Cortés, former home of Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés and now a history museum with murals by Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Just southwest is Cuernavaca Cathedral, in a 1500s walled monastery complex with a mural depicting Mexico’s first saint.
