Cahuita is a village on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, near the border with Panama. It's a gateway to Cahuita National Park, which has coral reefs and the white-sand beach of Playa Blanca. The park’s rainforest shelters toucans, monkeys and turtles. The black-sand beach of Playa Negra, known for its strong waves, is north of the village. Farther north, the Sloth Sanctuary cares for injured and orphaned sloths.
La Fortuna is a small town in Costa Rica, northwest of the capital, San José. It’s known as a gateway to Arenal Volcano National Park, comprising 2 volcanoes. Active Arenal Volcano is still laced with lava flows. Hot springs dot the foot of the volcano, on the thermal Tabacón River. Dormant Chato Volcano has a crater lake and rainforest trails leading to La Fortuna Waterfall, with its natural pool.
