La Perla is a historical shanty town astride the northern historic city wall of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, stretching about 650 yards along the rocky Atlantic coast immediately east of the Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery and down the slope from Calle Norzagaray. La Perla was established in the 18th century.
Vila Velha is a city on Brazil’s southeast coast. The 17th-century Penha Convent sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the city. Housed in an old railway station by the waterfront, Museu Vale has vintage model trains, photographs and artifacts. Beaches line the coast, including Praia de Itaparica, a surf beach in the north, and Praia da Baleia in the south. Small boats dot the sheltered waters of nearby Lagoa Grande.
