Magbababa (2021)
Miyo is a 28-year-old nursing dropout turned coconut farmer born of a superstitious family in Quezon province. He had to stop his degree to follow the command of his superstitious parents. He is a brother to a 9-year-old girl who died of an unknown disease because his father refused to take her to a hospital. Nilda, Miyo's mother, died of depression due to her daughter's death. From then, he alienated his father and started living on his own hoping that one day he will have a chance to avenge his sister and her mother. Years passed, Marse, Miyo's faith-healer father, contracted a severe illness. With the extreme belief in the magic of quack doctors, Marse refused to seek professional medication. But fearing that his life might end soon, Marse moves to make peace with his son as his last will. The possible death of Marse was a glimpse of hope of the revenge that Miyo wants for his mother and sister. Marse continues to see a number of faith healers that he knows. Until the "highest" of the faith healers advised him to see a real doctor or he would die before the weekends. When Marse received the news about his father, he began plotting an attempt to force the revenge that he was longing for. Because Miyo's anger toward his father is not exactly a secret, he pretended to give the forgiveness that his father wants. Days passed, Marse's condition became better until he lost consciousness. Miyo, who is out on the coconut farm, rushed home to see his father. Marse was already awake when Miyo arrived. Marse asked Miyo to sit beside him. He began reminiscing the days and the regrets he has about his family. Marse became more peaceful, but his story made Miyo feel the opposite. As the night begins to reach its peak, Miyo is nothing but reinforced to kill his father. He begins to walk, entered his father's room. He stands just right with a pillow. But Marse opened his eyes from his shallow sleep and realizes what his son would be doing. Marse cried for the first time. Miyo sees the tears of his father. He runs away and disappears into the darkness of the night.
