Tunis is the sprawling capital of Tunisia, a country in North Africa. It sits along Lake Tunis, just inland from the Mediterranean Sea’s Gulf of Tunis. It’s home to a centuries-old medina and the Bardo, an archaeology museum where celebrated Roman mosaics are displayed in a 15th-century palace complex. The parklike ruins of ancient Carthage sit in the city’s northern suburbs.
Miseria (2024)
Nada, a 20-year-old suffering from schizophrenia, falls into a dark depression after the mysterious murder of her twin sister Lina. But her encounter with Hela, a neighbor and a passionate boxer, offers her hope of a new friendship. Living with her sick father, who risks a leg amputation, Hela works tirelessly to support her family and to achieve her dream of joining the Tunisian Olympic boxing team. However, her integration into the neighborhood is not without challenges. Hela rejects the advances of Diego, a ruthless cop and the boss of the local gang who attempts to re-involve her in the distribution of "Candies," a dangerous combination of drugs, at the Barfly, a famous local nightclub where she used to work with Lina. While Nada is quickly drawn to Hela and sees her as a potential friend, Hela is immersed in her own challenges and keeps her distance. With mounting debts and a desire to save her father's leg, Hela turns to illegal underground MMA fights to earn as much money as possible. But Diego loses patience and threatens Hela, reminding her that they are partners in Lina's murder. Will Hela reveal the truth to Nada?
