Johannesburg, South Africa's biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement. Its sprawling Soweto township was once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Mandela’s former residence is now the Mandela House museum. Other Soweto museums that recount the struggle to end segregation include the somber Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill, a former prison complex.
Mission Südafrika (2018)
Henriette sets off on her second assignment abroad as a global nanny. This time the Munich woman, who was actually registered as "looking for work", is going to an idyllic but remote farm in South Africa. Henriette is supposed to look after 16-year-old Anton and his younger brother Linus, who are supposed to spend four weeks with their grandfather Konrad Eckstein without their parents. But the busy veterinarian and gamekeeper has neither the time nor the desire to take care of the bored city children himself. The 60-year-old is also anything but friendly with the nanny he flew in from Germany. The life-experienced Henriette realizes that deep beneath the rough shell there is a soft core when she sees him interacting with wild animals. With her empathy and a bit of courage, she sets out to find out what has broken his relationship with his grandchildren and his daughter Johanna, who turned her back on the farm a long time ago. Henriette, herself an expert in messed up parent-child relationships, also takes care of them. However, when it comes to her own matters of the heart, the otherwise tough nanny is a bit of a hassle herself. The angular Konrad, who secretly likes Henriette, also sets out to lure her out of her reserve.
