Plot summary

The year is 1884. Thousands of pioneers have made the dangerous trek to the Pacific Northwest, seeking gold and fortune. Some have fared well: established productive farms, built vast houses, and created thriving businesses. But some have fared... not so well. Pioneers Hannah and her husband John Mark face yet another difficult season. One more crop like last year's and they won't be able to survive. Until one day, Hannah stumbles across a surprising discovery.
