The Bonanno family lives in the outskirts of Palermo. Lucia, Annachiara's mother, scolds her daughter for breaking up with a "good catch" and they start arguing. Grandma Filippa is there with them during their quarrel and she immediately realizes that the guy they are talking about could change the destiny of the whole family. The grandmother puts an end to that pointless discussion: she has the solution. An ancient spell she knows will safe this thwarted love. Something intimate, secret and deeply feminine will bind Annachiara to his ex fiancée for ever. A little drop of her period blood spilled into the coffee the guy will drink will restore their love. The unpredictability of destiny will change the course of the events. Even in an era in which the light of rationality and knowledge illuminates every dark corner, the obscure need for magic invades our soul, since it is the expression of our subconscious that cries for desire, need and hope. Relying on her granny ancestral powers, Annachiara refuses to overcome the obstacle of an impossible love by herself and expresses her desire for omnipotence through occult forces. However, in the preparation of the love filter Annachiara lacks the main ingredient (that she has never known): love itself. This is exactly the reason why a love spell based on the absence of a true sentiment will never have the desired effect. Annachiara chooses to bind Federico to her with an artificial remedy and, in this way, she deprives him of his freedom as she herself is a slave of her ignorance and ineptitude.
