Jules, a 24-year-old novice photojournalist goes to the most coveted and mysterious cabaret in Paris because he has been given the task of taking photographs of the dancers. Armed with his camera and a semblance of courage, he crossed the threshold of the door. His first encounter is a couple, frolicking, sitting on the steps of an old staircase. Jules is petrified with embarrassment until the arrival of Mimi, a strong and vigorous woman, who leads him to the mythical Miss Doris, owner of the cabaret. Jules crosses the boxes occupied by six radiant and turbulent dancers. Mimi ushers Jules into the office. Miss Doris is in the middle of a discussion with a journalist, Candice, who is asking her to interview a coveted dancer. Miss Doris, a puny and sweet woman but with a crazy behavior, authorizes Candice to do her interview in exchange for the requested ritual gift.
