Halifax, an Atlantic Ocean port in eastern Canada, is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. A major business centre, it’s also known for its maritime history. The city’s dominated by the hilltop Citadel, a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. Waterfront warehouses known as the Historic Properties recall Halifax’s days as a trading hub for privateers, notably during the War of 1812.
Scarlines (2013)
Scarlines is a short film that tells the story of Jack, a post-op transman who returns to his small, coastal hometown for the first time since his transition. Late one night, he receives a phone call from his estranged father informing him that his mother is dead. With some apprehension at first, Jack decides to return to his hometown for the funeral. While visiting, he encounters old friends and re-lives experiences of small-town prejudices. Jack also runs into his father, who wants the opportunity to re-build their relationship, but struggles to find the words to say. It is through a visit to his old childhood home that Jack realizes that some relationships are worth salvaging, even after years of silence.
