Tyrol is a western Austrian state in the Alps that’s known for its ski resorts, historic sites and folk traditions. The capital city, Innsbruck, surrounded by mountains, is home to Habsburg Empire landmarks like baroque-style Hofburg Palace and Gothic Hofkirche Church. The city’s symbol is the 15th-century Goldenes Dachl, a loggia topped with gleaming copper tiles commissioned by Habsburg Emperor Maximilian I.

Innsbruck, capital of Austria’s western state of Tyrol, is a city in the Alps that's long been a destination for winter sports. Innsbruck is also known for its Imperial and modern architecture. The Nordkette funicular, with futuristic stations designed by architect Zaha Hadid, climbs up to 2,256m from the city center for skiing in winter and hiking or mountaineering in warmer months.

Plot summary

This short film is a four season look at the active life in the Tyrol region of Austria, where the locals live by centuries of tradition. In the winter, many people flock to the area to view or partake in sports, mostly of the Nordic variety. It is the down season for the large number of locals who work in agriculture, they who instead are tending to the wildlife who may not survive the winter otherwise, or dealing with the bounty of the previous season. Both pagan and religious celebrations mark the arrival of spring, when the countryside seems to awaken from winter. Spring and summer marks the busiest season for locals, but there are no less tourists who flock to the area for outdoor activities such as golf, boating on the many lakes, or mountain climbing. At the end of the season, another festival celebrates the return of the cattle into the lowlands from the mountain pastures, where they have spent the summer grazing. Autumn is hunting season, which is part of the cycle of life as many animals would not be able to survive the impending winter. The Tyrol is not all about the outdoors, as its cities are vibrant year 'round.
