Plot summary

Viktor Rastorguev, a rising colonel of the Moscow police, finds himself at the center of a scandal: one evening, while defending a girl, Rastorguev gets into a fight and uses his service weapon. Rastorguev's friend, USB Colonel Lykov, helps Viktor and persuades his superiors to keep Rastorguev in the service. But still, Viktor is transferred to St. Petersburg to take the place of the head of the police department, which was headed by Rastorguev's classmate Pyotr Maslov, who shot himself the day before for an unknown reason. And Lykov wants Rastorguev to try to find out the reason for the suicide of their classmate.
