Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. The revitalised Salford Quays dockyards now house the Daniel Libeskind-designed Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry cultural centre.

In 1991, 51-year-old John Lennon, living on the dole in Birmingham and following the moderate success of the Beatles, recalls how he left the band in 1962 after they were persuaded to release 'How Do You Do It?' as a single, rather than 'Love Me Do'. Finally, John gets a job interview but it comes to naught as John is extremely intolerant of Jobsworths - or Snodgrasses as he calls them and walks out. Returning home, his landlady Cal tells him that he just missed Paul McCartney, who came round to tell him that he was quite right, the band should never have recorded 'How Do You Do It?'
