Baja California is a Mexican state on the Baja California Peninsula, bordering the U.S. state of California. The landscape spans mountains and beaches on the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of California. Towns near the U.S. border include Tijuana, famous as a nightlife and shopping destination, as well as the town of Rosarito, with its wide, sandy Pacific beaches.

Drowning in debt, JJ, a young woman from the US, escapes from Los Angeles to Baja California, Mexico, looking for an old lover to save her from her tumultuous existence. She is accompanied by Esmeralda, a 14-year-old Mexican teenager who escapes from home and offers her a tempting sum of money if she accepts to take her to see her father. Always with the threat of being discovered, they embark on an adventure through the desert in which JJ's bad decisions will increasingly complicate things; but, along the way, a special relationship will emerge between both of them.
